Progressively, events from prior to 1998 are being added, with whatever results are available. Some years and states this is excellent or nearly complete, and other states this is rather patchy.
Important pages like tournament result pages and player profiles are saved to server rather than made on the fly - this increases speed massively.
Loads more information on player stat pages than ever before! Main pages consolidate player statistics, ratings history and most played opponents.
Single results page for each tournament shows standings for each section, statistics and ratings. One page for each section showing results for all players - you can click around from one page rather than have to visit multiple ones.
Tournament wide-statistics are back, e.g. highest averages, biggest upsets.
Partial name search for players implemented
Some minimal displays for team events have been created. See a sample here: 2025 AMSC, 2022 Trans Tasman
A number of 1995-1997 era events(where I have tournament files or partial results have been added. More will follow, although these records are incomplete. They also have not been data cleansed yet - the dump I have of files is disorganised with some files being attributed to the incorrect state, some I only have results, some I only have ratings. It's sadly a patchwork until 1998 when things are largely complete.
Basic displays for tournaments with incomplete information implemented - i.e. we have standings and ratings but no TOU file showing who played who.
See the list of current known errors:
Still lots of instances of a fake player 'A bye' used instead of correct bye procedure. Need to delete as these affect statistics.
Rating stat files (STA) are in an inconsistent format. This means they're not always read correctly. The current logic breaks each line up and looks for the third-last, second-last and last things that appear to be numbers which is mostly good but not perfect. New format may be required.
Formatting isn't always consistent on mobile phone - sizes, borders etc.
Ratings missing at some events, may be possible to extrapolate these from other data sources.
Work to be done:
Cron job to update player stats and tournament results automatically on a regular cycle, probably weekly, including when Ratings Officer uploads files.
Making sure that players in as multiple names are consolidated under one, and that I don't accidentally combine people who are similarly named but different people.
Some tournaments have some bonkers data in them, i.e. extra paired but unplayed rounds, or unplayed matches within rounds, or weird scorelines that don't look real. This may affect statistics and need to be fixed as they are found.
Updating tournament names for searching, i.e. don't use AMSC, use Australian Masters and State Team Challenge.
The HTML output by some of the scripts is okay, but some scripts put out really messy, hard to read source. To be cleaned up gradually.
Would be nice to get some updated biographies for players as well as photos for many who don't have them (if they want!)
Some tournaments only have results, but not real scores, i.e. all wins entered as 300-100 or similar. These should never be included in player stats but there should be a way of displaying them that is transparent as we don't have real scores anymore.
How can I help?
Identifying duplicate players, or people who are in the system under more than one name, i.e. a married name and a maiden name, or an abbreviation like Sue and Susan co-existing. If you've been around for a while and know players in your state well, get in touch.
Meaningful tournament names: Going through over 3000 events isn't something I can do quickly. I have dumped a list of all the events in the system along with the name the tournament had when it was rated. If you have time, go through and suggest better names for them, or mark them suitable. Link to spreadsheet is here.
Old results! If you have any, I'd like to hear from you. Anything from 1997 or earlier, or if you happen to have archived emails from 1998 with ratings from Victorian events. edwardok AT gmail DOT com. Some information I can get from old ATBs and I'm in the process of doing this.
If you find bugs, broken links or things that are providing nonsense output (i.e. outrageously wrong statistics like game scores, ratings not displaying properly, add them to the Error Log.
PHOTOS! If you have a decent or updated photo of yourself (in a reasoanble aspect ratio - the site uses 180 wide by 240 high by default), I'd like to have it - email to edwardok AT gmail DOT com. IF you're interested in having a biography on the site, email me too - I would like to reinstate these and have them for more players.
