Bob Jackman plans to conduct an online AMSC event using ISC (Internet Scrabble Club) over the designated weekend of 12th and 13th September.
There will be a single event held over two days, with all 41 qualifiers for both the Australian Masters and State Challenge eligible to take part.
Chris May has planned the format and draw and Edward Okulicz will be creating a web space to record ongoing results and annotated games. The format will be a progressive round robin, essentially with equal size groups playing round robins in four sessions over 2 days. Winners of groups will be promoted while losers of groups will be demoted. The ideal would be to play 20 games, but this will depend on the number of players wishing to take part. The proposed format is currently as follows:
- To take part you will need to be currently registered to play on ISC and have an ISC handle.
- 2 sessions each day - one morning, one afternoon
- For each session, the field will be split into groups of 6. Each group will play a 5-game round robin
- After each session, the top two players from each group will be promoted for the next session. The bottom two players will be demoted
- 15 minutes per player per game, single challenge
- ISC determines all starts
There are no plans to organise live streaming or commentary at this stage
There will be no prizemoney or rating consequences
Because each session will be fully pre-drawn, a session should take about 2.5 to 3 hours. This is based on the recent Virtual World Cup experience. More precise details (overtime policy, lateness policy, etc) to follow once the field is set - most of these will also replicate Virtual World Cup rules (https://www.cocoscrabble.org/virtual-world-cup).
This tournament is open to all presumptive AMSC 2020 qualifiers. Please send your entries to Bob Jackman.
